Rebecca Bangfield: Untangling (EP)
Jansen Records, 2026
With her clever songwriting and impressive voice, Rebecca Bangfield has attracted widespread attention in Norway with her fresh and catchy indie folk-pop, positioned somewhere between Maggie Rogers and Alice Phoebe Lou.
Bangfield released the EP Bundle of Bones in 2023, went on to compete in The Voice in 2024, before a stroke of luck led her to a support slot for Malin Pettersen in Oslo. From there, word started to spread. Support gigs for Norwegian indie heroes Hajk and the young American Bayker Blankenship followed. She entered the studio with Hans Kristian Nordin (tigerstate, For You), signed with Jansen Records, and now we are here: with the impressive EP Untangling.
Impressive, because there are few who write lyrics like Bangfield does: lyrical and creative, humorous and razor-sharp. In her songs, she can be petty and angry, jealous and sad, or in love and overwhelmed—always conveyed with elegance and vivid imagery. Bangfield delivers clever punchlines and toys with worn-out pop clichés until they become something fresh that truly sticks.
Hans Kristian Nordin has produced the EP in addition to playing a host of instruments. The other contributing musicians also form a star-studded lineup of hot young musicians from Oslo: Elias Tafjord on drums, Thomas Antonio Debelian on percussion, and Elias Fløtre Løstegaard on bass.
The Norwegian-Greek Bangfield has a background in choir, revue, theater, and classical ballet, and is a qualified school teacher, specialized in17th–18th century Norwegian childhood history and modern English literature.
Untangling releases on Jansen Records on January 16th, 2026.
