Imagine if Lana Del Rey went country, if Patsy Cline traveled to Twin Peaks or if Orville Peck was a woman from Bergen – easy, right?
Hello, It’s Embla is out now!
After 13 years as a drummer in the influential Norwegian indie band Razika, the time has finally come for Embla Karidotter to embark on her solo project – moving from behind the drum kit to center stage. 2021 started with the release of Embla and the Karidotters’ first EP and was followed by Embla abandoning her hometown of Bergen in favor of life on the road. She packed her dog, guitar, pen & pad into an RV, and traveled the country.
Their debut album Hello, I’m Embla won the Norwegian Grammy award (Spellemann) for Country Album of the Year in 2022. It was written on the road and revolves around searching for belonging, identity, love, and self-worth. The album shows a significant development from the first EP. Where Howling was more noir and cinematic, the new full-length is rowdier, more fun, and grounded in the honky-tonk tradition.
The star-studded Karidotters include Marie Moe (Razika, Slomosa) on bass, Nils Jørgen Nilsen (Honningbarna, The Needs, Sløtface) on drums and Simen Følstad Nilsen (Aiming for Enrike, Sløtface) on pedal steel.
