Collection: Sigrid Aase

Come closer and let yourself be embraced by Sigrid Aase’s music.

You might recognize her magical voice as one of two singers in indie band Hajk. Aase have been writing and working on her own material for years, and time has finally come to release music under her own name. Her new album was created in collaboration with acclaimed Norwegian artist and producer Hanne Hukkelberg.

Come Closer is a collection of songs that have matured over time. Some have stayed in the drawer for years; others are of a newer date. Aase has given producer Hukkelberg access to demos and raw takes, and excerpts from some of them ended up on the finished recording. They have also been working closely together lyrically.

Aase’s incredible voice is the main event here, while the ambitious soundscapes that help elevate the vocals, show a new side of Aase’s artistry. The collaboration with Hukkelberg has obviously been a fruitful one, as the songs might elicit associations to Susanne Sundfør, Emilie Nicolas and Kid A Mnesia-era Radiohead. At times it’s quiet, with great emotional nerve – other times it leans towards R&B, hinting at her former band. Altogether, Come Closer is a cohesive musical product that sounds entirely fresh, while it also definitely sounds like the sum of its primary parts: Aase and Hukkelberg.
